We have a slew of new movies to talk about this week with some interesting discussions stemming from those reviews. We look at The Wolverine and how director James Mangold manages to take a mutant character in a Japan setting and create a more effective western than The Lone Ranger (not that that’s a huge feat). We analyze 2 Guns, which finds its successful action formula held up by good chemistry among its heroes and villains. Meanwhile, The Smurfs 2 manages to create a more successful follow-up film when it comes to nostalgia, even though it recreates some of the first film’s mistakes and deviates from what did work in The Smurfs. Finally, Thomas and Rafe talk about a few independent films making the rounds, Before Midnight and Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, as well as Stoker on DVD. Co-hosts: Thomas & Doc Rotten
